Yazen secures €3.1M to combat obesity across Europe
Lund-based digital weight loss clinic Yazen Health has secured €3.1 million in funding led by Luminar Ventures to improve its product, reach more customers and expand to new markets.
Yazen was founded in 2021 by doctors, dietitians, psychologists and personal trainers to defeat obesity through a digital platform. The founders have experience creating successful digital healthcare platforms like MinDoktor and Blodtrycksdoktorn.
Yazen, which has also recently launched in Norway and Spain, is experiencing strong monthly growth and plans to use the new funding to expand its operations to additional European markets.
“We have already helped thousands of Swedes lose a total of several tons in weight and improved their quality of life as a result,” said Yazen co-founder and CEO Fredrik Meurling.
“We see a massive 15 percent monthly growth in our number of patients, and this investment is very important for our continued development and European expansion.”
Breakthrough solution for obesity
Obesity is a major health problem, costing the healthcare sector and society large amounts. It is a serious public health issue, as obesity can lead to chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. The World Obesity Federation’s 2023 atlas predicts that more than half of the world’s population, or over 4 billion people, will be obese or overweight by 2035.
With over 1.3 million adults in Sweden classified as obese and an even higher number of overweight individuals across Europe, Yazen aims to address the widespread problem of obesity and its associated health issues.
The company’s clinically proven treatment method combines lifestyle changes with GLP-1 inhibitors, the latest developments in weight loss medication.
Yazen chairman, co-founder and MD Magnus Nyhlén underlined the “global revolution” that is taking place in obesity treatment. With the developments of GLP-1 inhibitors and Yazen’s accessible digital platforms, patients will have ways to lose weight and maintain it through a new lifestyle.
